The VPN (Virtual Private Network) provides a secure connection from outside networks or internet service providers to the UC Merced internal network.  Using the VPN allows UC Merced students, faculty and staff to access library resources from off-campus.  Without the VPN, users will be locked out of electronic books, journals and databases. 

How to use the VPN to access UC Merced library resources from off campus:

 Set up the VPN (One time)

1. Download the VPN  (Instructions vary depending on your operating system.  Follow the step-by-step instructions carefully.)
2. Configure the VPN 

Connect to the VPN (Each time you need to access library resources)

1. Connect to an outside network (home, Starbucks, airport, etc.)
2. Log in to the VPN using your UCM net id and password (the same login you use for campus email)
3. Open a browser (IE, Firefox, Safari, etc.)

You will be virtually on the campus network, giving you full access to electronic library resources.
