Requesting Articles through Interlibrary Loan

Introduction

This tutorial will show you how to use Interlibrary Loan when you need to request a book or an article that our library does not have.

Use the active webpage on your right to complete the tutorial.

Follow these steps to request a book or an article:

  • On the library's home page, click on the Improve Your Research in the horizontal menu on the right.

  • Click on the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) link on the right.

Under Submit an ILL Request, you will see links to request books, articles, and other materials.

NOTE: Clicking on any of these links will open a request form in a new tab or window. Before you click on any of the links, please read through the rest of this tutorial.

Let's say you need this article:

Hounmenou, Charles. "Human Services Professionals' Awareness Of Human Trafficking." Journal Of Policy Practice 11.3 (2012): 192-206. 

Clicking on the Article Request link will open a form that looks like this:

Enter each citation element in the proper box:

Last Name: Hounmenou
First Name: Charles
Article Title: Human Services Professionals'     Awareness of Human Trafficking
Journal Title: Journal of Policy Practice
Date: 2012
Volume: 11
Issue: 3
Page Numbers: 192-206

When you click Continue, the UC-eLinks window will open to a page that looks like this:

Click on the link to Request this from another library. When you click on it, the window will open to a page that looks like this:

Enter in the following information:

  • library account number = UCMnetID
  • your email address

Click Continue.

The same process is used to request books and other materials. Simply use the appropriate link for document type.

ILL requests are typically delivered within 3-5 business days. Articles usually come in electronic format. Books are picked up at the Services Desk on the 2nd floor of the library. You will receive an email when your item is ready for pick up or online access.
